KILWA SETS TO PROMOTE TOURSIM AS THE INFORMATION CENTER LAUNCHED

In endeavor to promote cultural and natural tourism sites, Kilwa District has established Tourist information center which will serve as center for information and news dissemination for visitors regarding tourism attractions available in Kilwa and how to reach them. The construction of the center which have six tour guides was funded by the European Union and the French Government and was completed in 2015.

In endeavor to promote cultural and natural tourism sites, Kilwa District has established Tourist information center which will serve as center for information and news dissemination for visitors regarding tourism attractions available in Kilwa and how to reach them. The construction of the center which have six tour guides was funded by the European Union and the French Government and was completed in 2015.
Speaking during the launching of the center, the Kilwa District commissioner Mr Juma Njwayo who was a guest of honor informed tourism stakeholders and the audience attended the event that the government in KIlwa is fully committed to work hardly in creating conducive environment for the development of tourism in the district and that has directed the District Executive Director to include in his budget funds for development of tourism in the district. “We will do all possible to ensure that our tourism attractions in Kilwa are promoted and I have directed the District Executive Director to set aside funds for tourism development in his budget” noted Mr Njwayo.
On his party, the Tanzania Tourist Board’s Marketing Manager Mr Geofrey Meena assured the Kilwa Tourism Center Management team and stakeholders at large of Tanzania Tourist Board continued support during promoting various attractions found in Kilwa in International tourism fairs world wide.
Delivering statement during the event the event representative from European Union said that construction of the information center is just part of the project namely promoting heritage resources in Kilwa whose funding amounts to Euro 500,000 which is part of 10 Million Euro set aside to support cultural heritage in Tanzania. The project aims at identifying, protecting and promote heritage resources in Kilwa district so that to encourage the development of new income –generating activities.

He further said that the European Union in partnership with Kilwa District Council, Kilwa Masoko Township Authority and others , have devoted year 2016 to the development of selected tourists sites, the production of an exhibition, the design of promotional materials and the improvement of guest houses in villages within district.
The Tourism Information Center is located on Kilwa Masoko market square or rather bust stand where visitors coming by bus alight. The center is also a selling for locally made products and an architectural demonstration of what local materials can do.
